haven't checked this for a while but generally a college level music ed degree is one which prepares one to teach high school bankd or chorus..and area of specialty is not particularly required..although if you happen to be leaning toward the vocal end of it -- you need to pass a very basic piano proficiency test ..(show that you can read music)...doesn't require any chord bach chorale type analysis knowledge
